Tooth Extraction

Is the extraction of tooth a part of the dental treatment?

Yes, it is. It is a procedure during which the tooth is completely removed from its socket.

The necessity for tooth extraction arises from many factors including severe impairment or decay of the tooth. An extraction of tooth can do away the growth of bacteria and improve the general oral hygiene.

When do we recommend tooth extraction?

We recommend tooth removal when the decay in the tooth has been caused by deep cavity formation, severe gum disease ,impacted third molars  severe injury caused by external accidental impact and the natural tooth cannot be restored by adopting means such as dental filling and dental crowns.

During the procedure, the tooth is extracted or taken out from the socket to relieve the patient from continuous pain.

What is to be done before the extraction of tooth?

Apart from examining the affected tooth and the neighbouring gums as well as routine clinical investigation, the doctor will also advise you to undergo a dental X-ray examination in order to check and assess the bone levels and the degree of damage.

He also needs the information on your regular medications and associated blood reports as necessary.

  • Local anaesthesia is applied to numb the affected tooth and neighbouring gum tissue. Prior to local anaesthia we also use local anaesthetic spray so that the procedure is painless.
  • By utilizing the specific tools for the loosened, the tooth will first be loosened and extracted from the socket. The doctor may give some incision in your gum to have proper access to your tooth if the latter is severely decayed and got broken at the gum line.
  • Once the extraction is over, the doctor will clean and disinfect the socket.
  • In some cases, your dentist may place a dental bone graft to stop bone loss in the jaw.
  • At the end, stiches may be done to help healing.

      Post operational procedure:

  • Upon completion of the procedure, the doctor will place of medicated and disinfected cotton lump on the spot over the gum and ask you to put mild pressure which will slow down the bleeding and help to form a clot. This procedure will help to reduce the risk of sockets getting dried.
  • The gauze will have to be taken out once the bleeding has slowed down.
  • A light oozing of blood may continue for some time more and even for twenty four hours from the time of extraction.
