Procedural Steps in Dental Replacement

a) Investigation for implant

First of all the form of bite and the mouth is studied. Radiography including 3-D scanning or computerized axial tomography is required.

b) Placing the dental implants

The surgical procedure begins after anesthetizing the zone affected. On the benumbed zone a cavity is made where the implant is housed by a sequential introduction of a drill. Once done, the implant is placed, and if necessary, the opening on the gum is closed with stitches.

c) Integration of the implant with bone and tissues of the gum

It takes about two to six months for the completion of the osseointegration process. Once the process is complete, the rehab process can be initiated.

d) Placing the dental prosthesis

Now the impressions from the mouth are taken to make new teeth. Taking into consideration of the aesthetics and the functionality of the new set of teeth, the latter are cemented or are screwed into implant.

e) Placing the splint for discharge

In order to protect implant as well as the prosthesis of porcelain from getting worn out, a splint for discharge is recommended for use.

f) Maintenance and hygiene

Once the entire process is over, it will be necessary to maintain a good oral hygiene including brushing and using the dental thread.

Points to note:

  • If the osseointegration has not occurred to the extent desired as per medical norms, the implant will not be successful. The patient should adhere to the instruction of the doctor for better result.
  • Before the treatment a review of the oral hygiene is necessary because such common ailments as tooth decay and gum disease may produce less effective result.
  • The procedure can be done any time after the bone growth is complete, that is after the adolescence period of the patient.
